Just Watched Shaun White Get the Gold in the Vert Finals, Skateboarding Brings Me Back

Watching the Vert Finals right now. Seeing those old school names like Bucky Lasek and Bob Burnquist brings me back to the old days.

Emiliana Torrini’s Cover of ‘White Rabbit’

Emiliana Torrini

I previously knew Emiliana Torrini through her album ‘Fisherman’s Woman’, pretty much because of the song ‘Heartstopper’. I just read that she did a cover of Jefferson Airplane’s ‘White Rabbit’ for the movie Sucker Punch.

It’s a pretty cool cover, the updated studio quality helps but besides that it is pretty faithful to the original. The Icelandic singer has a wonderful voice, and while the song doesn’t stand out as a classic to me or anything, it is a solid updated version of the original.

Trent Reznor Wins an Academy Award

…And as all the art lovers cry because “Exit Through the Gift Shop” didn’t win best documentary tonight, I’d just like to point out Trent Reznor won and Academy Award, which is pretty cool. While I’ve never been a huge Nine Inch Nails fan, and have yet to see the Social Network (yeah, I know, blasphemy), I do have to thank Reznor for creating the amazing song, “Hurt”. Not only was “Hurt” a great song, but Johnny Cash covered it, and any Cash cover has got to be a good one.

On We March – Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross

The songs I’ve heard from the Social Network soundtrack have kind of a subdued, industrial Dust Brother’s work for Fight Club kind of sound to them. The building tensions and dark soundscapes are great, and anyone who enjoyed this music should probably check out Radiohead’s “The King of Limbs”, Thom Yorke’s “The Eraser” , and the Dust Brother’s work for Fight Club.
