Some older tracks from Earl Sweatshirt, from before OF, when he was known as Sly Tendencies…
-PS new favorite Earl song.
‘Goblin’ comes out in the US tomorrow, and it’s already out in Europe. Tyler, the Creator and MellowHype both have albums on the way, probably in 2012, despite very recent releases. Earl Sweatshirt is bound to be released from Samoan boarding school within the next couple of years, he’s gotta be 18 very soon right? How long has it been since he released ‘Earl’? Two years? Obviously Odd Future’s mainstream takeover is still in its early stages.
With the ‘Goblin’ release looming, and due to suggestions for an Earl vs. Tyler kinds of poll, I decided to make a poll asking, who is your favorite OF member. And hopefully the next poll won’t be Odd Future-centric. Two in a row is cool, time to move on after this, but for now, drop a vote.
I love OFWGKTA and I love Neutral Milk Hotel. I never imagined in a million years I would come across a mashup of Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt’s ‘Assmilk’ and Neutral Milk Hotel’s ‘King of Carrot Flowers, Pt. 1’. When combining two names like that, the end result is bound to turn out weird, ‘King of Assmilk Flowers’, but nevertheless the track is a great and upbeat track that brings a whole new feel to Tyler and Earl’s raps.
Here’s another pretty cool track, Toro y Moi’s remix of Tyler, the Creator’s ‘French’
UPDATE: “his mom sent him to boot camp after hearing his lyrics … some kid from la told me on xbox live i was telling ant about em and hes like you know odd future and i said ya then he asked if i was from la then i said no then hes like wow theyre gettting popular blah blah then i said what happened to earl and he told me cause he used to hang out with earl”
My brother sent me this on Facebook, could this be the answer…
Speaking of OFWGKTA, Earl Sweatshirt. People have been saying that this kid, who’s 17 right now, and released his debut at 16, has more talent then Nas at this age. Tyler, the Creator himself said that Earl’s debut was better then the holy grail, Nas’ debut, Illmatic.
While I don’t think Earl’s debut was that good, still, the kid is a beast. His rhymes are complex, filled to the brim with multiple rhymes within the same lines, and velvety smooth flows.
Tyler is the leader of OFWGTKA and dude is a master of all things marketing his brand, and making people pay attention. From the violent and surreal drug addled music, to the persona who puts forth, and the fact that him and his friends basically fuck around and mess with the journalists in nearly every interview I’ve seen or read, this guy knows how to make people focus on him, and his clique.
You have to respect their intelligence. OFWGTKA is bringing a fresh feel to nearly every aspect of music and music industry. Even if their music isn’t quite on the same level as Nas’ debut, they know exactly how to get where they wanna be, and they’re going there fast.
From Nas comparisons and Kanye call outs, to interviews from nearly everyone and insanely fresh music, OFWGKTA has got it all.
My biggest question is where is Earl? Tyler himself has told interviewers he is dead, but I don’t know how believable that actually is. Wikipedia says he’s at boarding school, more believable. Part of the appeal of Earl, is the mystery of Earl. Most of the world has no idea who he actually is besides a member of Odd Future and Tyler’s brother, they just know him as Earl, a really good young rapper. No one knows where he actually is besides his friends and family. WHERE IS EARL. That’s all I ask. Cause this kid is fucking nasty.

CopKiller (ft. Earl Sweatshirt) – MellowHype
I’ve been seeing Tyler the Creator’s name popping up in a few places, so I figure now is the time to write about him before he either fades away back into obscurity or blows up to the point of exasperation. Because of his lyrical style, I can see him having some hits, but I think he will be a cult icon more then anything. I do think he is one of the best of the whole shock/horror/porn rap kind of scene, and he’s just blowing up, so he has years ahead to hone his talent.
At 20, Tyler and his brother Earl Sweatshirt, along with their crew, OFWGKTA, have been making a name for themselves releasing tracks out of their hometown of Los Angeles. Tyler’s previous album, Bastard, is pretty good, and on DatPiff. It’s worth a listen before checking out his next release, due to drop in April, Goblin.
Lyrically, he is graphic, misogynistic and surreal. While his subject matter might turn some off, the way he ties the lines of his verses together with intricate and wordplay and imagery is amazing. Besides that, one only has to hear the beats, which consist of a laid back, scratchy feel about as surreal as his lyrics, are fitting and catchy.
Here’s the song that has been receiving so much attention lately, “Yonkers”:
