The list of Grammy nominees for the awards ceremony in February was released pretty recently. Here’s a quick look at some of the bigger categories, and who should win, but probably won’t, at least in most cases, because music awards often suck.
Album of the Year (Adele, Foo Fighters, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Rhianna)
Definitely either Adele’s ’21’ or the Foo Fighter’s ‘Wasting Light’
Best New Artist (J. Cole, Skrillex, Bon Iver, Nicki Minaj, The Band Perry)
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (Amy Winehouse & Tony Bennet, Foster the People, The Black Keys, Coldplay, Maroon 5)
Tough one. Amy Winehouse definitely deserves one more award following her death and her and Tony Bennet’s ‘Body and Soul’ is a great throwback. The Black Keys threw together a great cover of Buddy Holly, and Foster the People’s ‘Pumped up Kicks’ had to be one of the catchiest songs of the year. Probably, Amy Winehouse.
Best Rock Album (Foo Fighters, Jeff Beck, Kings of Leon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wilco)
No doubt, Foo Fighters. Not only did they put together an amazing album, they recorded the entire thing without modern studio technology. Unbelievable.
Best Rap Album (Jay Z & Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Lupe Fiasco, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West)
Definitely ‘Watch the Throne’
