‘Rock the Bells’ Tour Toasts to the Old-SchoolPosted: July 10, 2011
The 2011 Rock the Bells tour, an annual hip-hop and R&B festival, boasts a lineup that is sure to excite many old-school hip-hop fans.
The annual concert is set to arrive in Boston, MA on Sept. 10th. Featured acts include Lauryn Hill, Nas, Most Def, Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu, and Common, to name a few.
This year, artists will showcase the classic material that defined their careers. Lauryn Hill will be performing her 1998 album Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and Nas will be performing Illmatic, which was released in ‘94.
“Rock the Bells isn’t about who is selling the most right now,” Cypress Hill’s B-real tells Rolling Stone. “It’s about traditional hip-hop culture, and what these albums meant to people.”
The cultural value of this year’s show is sure to attract eager fans with high expectations, but artists such as MC Havoc of Mobb Deep welcome the challenge. “I would be really arrogant to say that it is going to be easy,” he tells Rolling Stone. “It is going to be a challenge, and it will be fun at the same time.”
